He has specific expertise in personal injury claims, speed and consumption claims and surveys of port infrastructure damage. In addition he has wide experience in general marine surveying including condition and valuation surveys, drydocking and preparation of repair specifications as well as towage requirements for a variety of ships including commercial ships, passenger craft and fishing vessels. Linked to his towage experience is his expertise in operational and navigational risk assessments and audits, and the production of formal safety management systems, environmental management procedures and emergency contingency plans.
Keith has experience with heavy lifts, RoRo operations and most types of cargo e.g. break bulk, steel products, paper, wood, bulk and refrigerated products. He also has experience with a variety of liquid cargo claims, including oil products, quality and shortage claims, as well as molasses operations.
A particular area of expertise is his wide experience in Health and Safety both from the shipboard and the port operational points of view, the latter gained from his 12 years as Harbour Master at Sharpness. He has undertaken Health and Safety investigations, audits and risk assessments for a variety of theoretical and operational situations.
Keith has undertaken warranty surveys (for underwriters) for a major gas field development overseeing the transhipment of project cargoes including large and heavy structures and smaller “sensitive” lightweight materials, such as merchant iron profiles (small pipe and profiled sectionals). He is experienced with most modern inter modal systems such as container, RoRo, MAFI etc.

Training Officer and Relief Master he then joined the Maritime Trust as technical manager for the Historic Clipper Ship CUTTY SARK where he managed and oversaw the first major renovation of the ship’s masts and rigging since the 1950’s. During this period he gained the British Safety Council Diploma in Safety
Management as part of his work in safely mixing major maritime engineering works with keeping the historic vessel open to the public. He was also responsible for arranging and managing the permanent docking of the historic vessels now on display at Chatham Historic Dockyard. In 2001 he joined the RNLI as Thames Operations Manager where he was a key player in implementing the RNLl’s new Thames Lifeboat service. Whilst with the RNLI he obtained a Lloyd’s Maritime Diploma in Marine Surveying with Merit specialising in small commercial craft.
For 26 years he was also an Executive Officer in the Royal Naval Reserve where he specialised in mine countermeasures and latterly amphibious warfare. His last appointment from 1999 — 2001 was as Commanding Officer of HMS PRESIDENT, the Royal Navy Reserve Unit in London. Over the last 5 years he has combined part time work as nautical lecturer and trainer with a wide range Of general marine survey work. He is now pleased to represent McAusland’s in London and the South East.

He has worked for a number of shipping companies in the roles of ‘Head of Safety Navigation Department’ and was a project manager overseeing ship building. More recently he has been the Head of
Marine Department at RESO-GARANTIA, one of the leading Russian insurers.
